Bradley Cooper’s well-directed A Star is Born tugs on heartstrings

When I first saw the trailer forĀ A Star is Born, there was a sense of emotion I hardly see in previews. I felt the connection between singer-songwriter Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) and Ally (Lady Gaga). I witnessed something special…then the trailer ended, and I longed for more.

While I didn’t expect this film to weigh so heavy on my heart — I haven’t seen the original films — it was a welcome rollercoaster ride of emotions.

Let’s just get the obvious out of the way:

Lady Gaga puts on an Oscar-worthy performance.

Bradley Cooper can sing?!

This film is nothing short of great, even if the second half didn’t hold up to the near-perfect standards of the first half.
