Papillon is a remake of the 1973 classic of the same name, starring actors Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. In director Michael Noer’s modern take on the prison break film, we get actors Charlie Hunnam as Papillon and Rami Malek as Lois Dega.
These two form an uncanny friendship due to outstanding circumstances: they’re being transported to a remote island because, like the rest of the outlaws on board, they’re guilty of serious crimes. For Papillon, however, the crime he was brought into prison for was something he’s not guilty of — even though he’s a two-timing diamond thief. After being framed for murder and taken away from the love of his life (actor Eve Hewson), he begins to formulate a plan to escape the island and get his life back.
Thing is, he needs money to finance the escape. Enter Dega, who’s a wealthy criminal.
See, this all sounds good on paper, but the translation to the big screen only provided big problems.
