Talk about dropping a lot of information, Disney. Star Wars: Episode IX‘s official website announced new details for the ninth Star Wars film, which brings back director J.J. Abrams.

  • Daisy Ridley

New faces to the Star Wars universe include Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant.

Oh, and we can’t forget some veterans making a return for Episode IX, like Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams.

The biggest question was what in the world this Star Wars installment was going to do with actor Carrie Fisher’s character, Princess Leia. With her unfortunate death prior to the release of The Last Jedi, there has been speculation that maybe they’ll just fast-forward to her funeral at the beginning of Episode 9.

With this recent bombshell of a news release, Star Wars’ official site confirms Abrams will use unreleased footage from The Force Awakens.

Abrams told StarWars.com in part, “Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”

Composer John Williams will also return to score Episode IX. Do I really need to explain who he is to you?

Episode IX will begin filming on Aug. 1 at London’s Pinewood Studios.

The release date is expected to be December 2019.
