An action movie? Starring Dwayne Johnson? Well, hey — I know what to expect: lots of explosions, cheesy one-liners, generic script and “The Rock” being … well, “The Rock.”
In Rawson Marshall Thurber‘s Skyscraper, Johnson plays father and husband Will Sawyer, who also scored a sweet gig to inspect the safety of the world’s tallest skyscraper. This building is in Hong Kong, but with all the green screen and CGI, it hardly feels like Hong Kong. Moving on!
Sawyer eventually gets in the middle of some shady business and has to fight his way to the top of the skyscraper to save his family.
The thing is: Nothing about Skyscraper screams intrigue, and it misses the mark when trying to simply be a mindless action film.
