Well, then: Collider is reporting that AMC’s The Walking Dead may be without their main man, actor Andrew Lincoln, by the end of season nine.
Collider said “fans can only expect to see Lincoln in half-a-dozen episodes of the upcoming season.”
There’s no statement from AMC at the moment, but losing Rick would pretty much bury the show after showrunners killed off Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs). The Walking Dead has been trending downward in viewership, so it’s to no surprise that this hype train has begun running out of gas.
Variety reports that season eight “as a whole averaged a 3.4 and 7.8 million viewers in Live+Same Day, down from Season 7’s average approximately the same percentages as the Season 8 finale compared to the Season 7 finale.” Heck, the season eight mid-season finale was the lowest rated in series history.
Back to Collider’s report, though: actor Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, has reportedly been tied up in drama behind the scenes, as she has apparently held out for a better contract.
Cohan will be back, but only for six episodes, it seems.
Season nine of The Walking Dead is expected to debut later this year.
