This isn’t a secret: Avengers: Infinity War is the most-anticipated superhero film to-date. This is a build-up 18 films in the making, and it succeeded. And honestly, I knew it would shatter records, but the numbers at the box office — both domestic and worldwide — are ridiculous.
According to Box Office Mojo, Marvel Studios’ Infinity War has broken the domestic opening weekend box office record with $250 million and worldwide opening weekend record with $630 million. The domestic record was previously held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $247.9 million. Mama Mia, right?
At the international box office, the Russo Brothers’ superhero spectacle grossed $380 million, Box Office Mojo reports, which is about 72% of the international market.
And for good measure: This opening weekend total has brought the Marvel Cinematic Universe to an estimated $15.5 billion total through 19 films.
Yeah, I’d say Infinity War isn’t done breaking records.
Avengers: Infinity War is out now in theaters.
