Director/writer Jon Favreau, known for kick-starting Marvel’s Cinematic Universe with Iron Man, will be writing and the executive producer for a live-action Star Wars series.
This news comes Thursday morning via the official Star Wars site, and they say this will be for Disney’s new direct-to-consumer platform.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said, “I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform. Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”
The news of this being for what seems to be their new streaming service is smart on Disney’s end. They’ll garner more viewers and subscribers because of Star Wars’ vast fanbase.
Thing is, don’t expect this anytime soon: no release date or window has been announced.
