Say it ain’t so: director J.J. Abrams, well-known in Star Wars fans’ minds for The Force Awakens, has been brought on board to direct Episode IX. This news comes shortly after director Colin Trevorrow was given the boot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy welcomed Abrams with open arms. “With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Kennedy in a statement.
The details outside of this are scarce, but Episode IX’s expected release date remains May 24, 2019.
