Oh, Arnie, I love ya, but this whole Terminator thing … it’s not working out. But you cannot tell Arnold Schwarzenegger “no” and, according to The Playlist, he’ll be back, baby, for Terminator 6.
“In March next year, I am shooting ‘Terminator 6,’ James Cameron and David Ellison are back on board and then comes a ‘Conan,’ ” Schwarzenegger said to The Playlist.
Not even director James Cameron’s name excites me for this bit of news and yet another Terminator flick. The 70-year-old Schwarzenegger, coupled with a franchise that’s long overstayed its welcome, isn’t a formula for success any longer.
Let’s look at the Terminator films’ Metacritic scores to-date:
- The Terminator: 83
- Terminator 2: Judgement Day: 75
- Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines: 66
- Terminator Salvation: 49
- Terminator Genisys: 38
I didn’t even have to place the films out of chronological order to show you that their scores slowly began to lessen over time, even if T2 is my favorite of the series (come at me, Metacritic).
Yet again, as we’ve seen with The Mummy, the foreign box office saved one of the worst films of 2015 in Genisys, which made a lackluster $89.7 million domestic, $350.8 million international.
Luckily, The Playlist is reporting T6 is being produced by Cameron, so he saves face when this one inevitably bombs.
I am such a negative Nancy, but how is this good news for anyone?
