That sums up how I feel about The Emoji Movie finishing ahead of the most solid action film of the summer, Atomic Blonde. I guess millennials and our youth swoon over poop emojis, after all.
There’s no surprise Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk finished first, which is well-deserved for the breathtaking film.
Let’s take a peep at the top 10 for this past weekend’s box office, according to Box Office Mojo.
- Dunkirk $28,130,000
- The Emoji Movie $25,650,000
- Girls Trip $20,085,540
- Atomic Blonde $18,554,000
- Spider-Man: Homecoming $13,450,000
- War for the Planet of the Apes $10,375,000
- Despicable Me 3 $7,725,895
- Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets $6,800,000
- Baby Driver $4,050,000
- Wonder Woman $3,540,000
Notes: If nothing else, The Emoji Movie is on-pace to make back its production budget of $50 million. The film’s quality? It scored a 10 on Metacritic … I think it’s safe to say Wonder Woman has the strongest legs during its nine-week run at the box office, bringing its worldwide total to $786 million … Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver staying in the top 10 is a win for anyone who loved that film, as I did … Unfortunately, Valerian continues to bomb at the box office, yet I’m still intrigued by the film. I’ll give it a watch …
