Fan theories can be fun, but generally they’re outlandish. Seldom do they prove true. However, actor Tom Holland — our Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming — confirmed that young Parker made an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe years ago.
Fans may remember a scene Iron Man 2 where a child wearing an Iron Man helmet stands up to a drone. All of this happens before Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) swoops in, stands next to the kid and blasts the drone into pieces.
Holland, according to Screen Crush confirmed that the kid in the Iron Man helmet was indeed Peter Parker.
“I can confirm that as of today. I literally had a conversation with Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago,” said Holland. “Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.”
All of this would make sense, given that in Civil War we see the budding relationship with Stark and Parker, which will grow in Homecoming.
There’s no way of telling whether the Iron Man 2 Easter egg was intentional, but kudos to it making a ton of sense.
Spider-Man: Homecoming debuts in North America on July 7, 2017.
