June 16 — What’s in theaters?

This weekend brings the resurgence of the Cars franchise, along with the 2Pac biopic All Eyez on Me. Let’s tackle some new releases for this weekend!

Cars 3

Director: Brian Fee
Starring: Owen Wilson, Cristela Alonzo, Chris Cooper, Nathan Fillion

Here’s a sequel six years in the making, but one that doesn’t necessarily come off a good installment in Cars 2. I was able to see this film earlier in the week, and, well, you can read it here for yourself.

All Eyez on Me

Director: Benny Boom
Starring: Demetrius Shipp Jr, Danai Gurira, Kat Graham

A Tupac Shakur biopic was talked about ever since the surprising success of Straight Outta Compton, a film that helped bring hiphop back into Hollywood. Funnily enough, at the end of that film, you see them tease 2Pac’s role with Death Row Records. Nonetheless, this film was bound to happen, but will it live up to the hype?

47 Meters Down

Director: Johannes Roberts
Starring: Mandy Moore, Claire Holt

How can you not love Mandy Moore? Well, star her in a film about sharks that looks … cheap, and you may make Moore fans angry. 47 Meters Down has gotten its fair share of marketing, so odds are, you’ve heard of this new shark thriller.

Rough Night

Director: Lucia Aniello
Starring:  Scarlett Johansson,  Jillian Bell,  Zoë Kravitz

I was taught never to judge a book by its cover. And it’s true: lots of films deserve a chance. But Rough Night is a film where I struggle to see any sort of substance or humor that is appealing.

Here’s the IMDB summary:

Things go terribly wrong for a group of girlfriends who hire a male stripper for a bachelorette party in Miami.

See? Trailer is NSFW.
