Charlize Theron isn’t shying away from action films this 2017 (cough, Fate of the Furious, cough). With Atomic Blonde, a film set to be a fiery tale of spy vs. spy, the Oscar-winning actress looks to command a more front-and-center role as a M16 assassin sent to complete an impossible mission.
This is the first time I’m seeing anything from Atomic Blonde, but almost immediately there’s a sense of intrigue: Theron is badass on her own, but in this she uses a rope against a gang of policemen, it seems.
Director David Leitch is no stranger to action, with a hand in John Wick and the upcoming Deadpool 2. Here, it seems there’s a solid direction during chaotic sequences, something we’re familiar with in both John Wick films.
Luckily for Leitch, there is some sort of source material to help chug the storyline along. Atomic Blonde is based on the Oni Press graphic novel series The Coldest City. If you haven’t heard of the novel, you’re not alone.
So it’s Theron, a rope and a bunch of baddies — I’m paying attention, but I’m always not expecting anything of substance.
This first look at ‘Atomic Blonde’ was sent to me thanks to Sly Fox and Universal Pictures. ❤
