‘Suicide Squad’ breaks August record in opening weekend

Say what you will about WB’s “Suicide Squad,” but director David Ayer’s film (or studio executives’ film, depending on who you ask) made a ton of money during its opening weekend.

According to Box Office Mojo, the gang of baddies beat the previous August opening weekend record by $40 million worldwide, rounding out at an estimated $135.1 million.

Which movie did it top? Why, it was the loveable Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy.” GotG grossed $94.3 million in 2014, which was a previous opening day record.

“Suicide Squad” is in theaters worldwide with a run time of 2 hours and 3 minutes.
