San Diego Comic Con: Amazons and Shimmy Shimmy Ya

It’s that time of the year when nerds, geeks and fans of comic book movies look westward to San Diego for news. Posters, trailers, stills, casting decisions and basically anything else leaks out of San Diego Comic Con in drips and drabs, so it’s time for a short recap of the major goings-on.

DC and Warner Bros

The solo movie about Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine got both a poster and a trailer.

I do appreciate that it’s a period piece set during the first World War. Pretty soon I’ll be an expert on the subject because of the amount of time I’ll be spending playing “Battlefield 1.” Gal Gadot certainly looks the part, and I hope Chris Pine brings some of that Kirk charm into his portrayal of Steve Trevor.

Meanwhile, DC and Warner Bros are ramping up the hype for “Justice League” by releasing a teaser trailer of sorts.

The studio has brought a lighter touch which is greatly appreciated after all of the grimness of “Batman vs Superman”. Affleck seems to be having a lot of fun with the Bruce Wayne role and he has good chemistry with Gal Gadot. Aquaman looks awesome while The Flash is charming and funny. My one issue is Cyborg who simply looks too … fake in comparison to the other heroes. They should probably just make a suit and touch it up with CG effects.

James: I tried speaking to a fish after watching the JL trailer. I am saddened to report it didn’t work.

Doctor Strange got a new trailer that offered more looks at the reality-bending universe.

Netflix and Marvel seem to be firing on all cylinders as we got trailers for Luke Cage and Iron Fist, and a teaser for The Defenders.

Love the song chosen for this. It’ll be fun to see Luke Cage take on thugs as he tries to clean Harlem. Hopefully we get an appearance by Jessica Jones.

Not much is revealed in this trailer about Iron Fist. Aside from Daredevil, he’s the character I know the most about, so I’ll be keeping an eye on the development of this series.

Lastly, we have a teaser for The Defenders that tells us next to nothing. The street level version of the Avengers should be an interesting project. Is it too late to ask for the Punisher as an addition?

James: Marvel Studios released their new logo and cinematic introduction for future films.

Those are some of the big stories to come out of the San Diego Comic Con so far. I’ll keep my ear to the ground so check in for updates.
