Why, Ferg, why?!
The Trap Lord, or “former” Trap Lord, has released “Strive” featuring the lyrical talents of Missy Elliott off his album “Always Strive and Prosper.”
It begins with a weird house-pop hybrid beat and leaves you wondering if you clicked on the correct song. Since when does Ferg dabble in these types of beats?
Then, the harmonizing begins a bit and you’re thinking, “This is the same MC who did ‘Let it Bang’?”
The only reason this song isn’t getting a one out of 10 is because Missy Elliott stops my ears from bleeding.
I’m shocked that this is the direction the album has gone. ScHoolboy Q’s feature on “Let it Bang” created promise, then came “New Level,” which wasn’t horrible, and it all went downhill from there.
I guess this is what happens when you peak early with your freshman album — it’s an uphill battle after that.
“Always Strive and Prosper” releases April 22, 2016.
